Growing & Establishment

Typical germination time 10-20 days (with GA3)

Pre-Treatment

Treat seed with gibberellic acid (GA3) before sowing to improve germination speed and consistency, though seed will still germinate without it, just more slowly.

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained, rich mix in polybags. Papaya is fast-growing and prefers consistently warm conditions.

Sowing

Sow 1cm deep, one seed per polybag.

Post-Care & Growing On

Keep consistently moist. Germination improves with GA3 treatment. Papaya plants are often either male, female, or bisexual — you generally need a female or bisexual plant to get fruit, which isn't apparent until flowering.

Tips
