Growing & Establishment

Tree seeds vary widely in their germination requirements. Many Indian hardwood species benefit from pre-sowing treatment — soaking for 12–24 hours, mechanical scarification, or brief hot water treatment to break seed coat dormancy. Polybag nursery raising is the standard method for most plantation species in India. Field transplanting is best timed to coincide with the onset of the monsoon for maximum survival.

Use in India

India's National Afforestation Programme, state forest departments, and private agroforestry initiatives use millions of tree seedlings annually for reforestation, social forestry, and watershed restoration. Native tree species are preferred for ecological projects, carbon sequestration, and farm forestry under national agroforestry schemes.

SeedsCart has supplied tree seeds to nurseries, forest departments, NGOs, plantation companies, and agroforestry projects across India for over 30 years. Seeds are collected from certified natural stands, germination-tested before dispatch, and available in bulk quantities for institutional and commercial buyers. We ship internationally.

Germination Guide
Typical germination time 15-30 days (with treatment)
1

Pre-Treatment

Treat seed with a 600ppm gibberellic acid (GA3) solution combined with 6% sucrose before sowing — this documented treatment significantly improves germination for this species compared to untreated seed.
2

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained mix in polybags. Indian Jujube (Ber) is drought-tolerant and well suited to dry, marginal soils.
3

Sowing

Sow 1.5-2cm deep, one seed per polybag.
4

Post-Care & Growing On

Keep moderately moist. Germination is significantly improved with the GA3/sucrose treatment; expect lower and slower germination if treated seed or solution isn't available. Grafting a known variety is common for consistent fruit quality.

Tips

  • The GA3/sucrose treatment measurably improves germination for this species — untreated seed germinates far less reliably Drought-tolerant once established, well suited to dry or marginal soils Grafting is standard for reliable fruit quality in orchard plantings
