Fresh — Great for Germination · Collected recently — great time to sow
Why is this approximate?

Freshness status shown above is an approximate estimate derived from this species' typical collection period and reported seed longevity. It does not reflect verified testing of this specific batch and should be treated as general guidance only.

Seed germination is a biological process dependent on multiple variables outside our control, including but not limited to storage conditions prior to and following purchase, sowing technique, soil composition and drainage, ambient and soil temperature, humidity, light exposure, and watering practices. Even under optimal growing conditions and correct pre-treatment, no seed lot can be guaranteed to achieve 100% germination, and natural variation in individual seed viability is expected. SeedsCart does not guarantee germination outcomes and is not liable for germination failure arising from growing conditions, handling, or environmental factors beyond the point of sale.

Michelia champaca (Champaca, champak) is a ornamental tree species sourced from Indian natural stands, suited for landscaping, avenue planting, and ornamental garden design.

Seeds per kg (approx.) 10000-29500
Collection Period Aug - Sept
Germination 70-80%
Seed Longevity 6 Months

Growing & Establishment

Ornamental tree seeds are best sown in well-prepared nursery beds or polybag containers with good drainage. Pre-soaking for 12–24 hours and scarification of hard-coated seeds improves germination rates significantly. Provide partial shade during early seedling stages. Transplanting is best done at the onset of or during the monsoon season for optimal field establishment across India.

Use in India

Ornamental trees are in growing demand across India for urban beautification, highway median planting, institutional campus landscaping, and residential colony greening. Native ornamental species are increasingly preferred for their ecological value — providing habitat for birds, bees, and butterflies — alongside their visual appeal.

Seeds are sourced from established specimen trees across India and tested for germination viability before dispatch. SeedsCart is a trusted supplier with experience serving nurseries, landscape contractors, and municipal greening departments. We ship internationally.

Germination Guide
Typical germination time 20-35 days
1

Pre-Treatment

No pre-treatment is essential for this species. Sow fresh seed for the best results, as viability declines with storage.
2

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained mix in polybags, in partial shade — Champa tolerates some shade well in its early growth, reflecting its natural understory habit.
3

Sowing

Sow 1-1.5cm deep, one seed per polybag.
4

Post-Care & Growing On

Keep consistently moist. Germination is generally reliable with fresh seed. Valued for its intensely fragrant flowers, commonly used in religious offerings and perfumery.

Tips

  • Sow fresh seed where possible — viability drops with prolonged storage Partial shade in early growth suits this species well
