Germination Guide

Typical germination time 7-14 days

Pre-Treatment

Scarify the hard seed coat (a light nick or filing) and soak in warm water (around 38-43°C) for 12-24 hours before sowing.

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained potting mix. A genuinely important detail: this species responds more to root-zone (soil) warmth than to air temperature — a room that feels comfortably warm at 21°C can still have soil surface temperatures well below what's needed if the tray sits near a window, on a cold floor, or in a basement. A seedling heat mat under the tray solves this reliably.

Sowing

Sow the scarified, soaked seed about 1-2cm deep.

Post-Care & Growing On

Keep consistently moist and genuinely warm (21-29°C, measured at the soil, not just the room). Germination normally takes 7-14 days under the right conditions — if seed sits in a moist tray for 2-4 weeks with no change, the most common cause is soil that's cooler than it feels, not bad seed.
