Fresh — Great for Germination · Collected recently — great time to sow
Why is this approximate?

Freshness status shown above is an approximate estimate derived from this species' typical collection period and reported seed longevity. It does not reflect verified testing of this specific batch and should be treated as general guidance only.

Seed germination is a biological process dependent on multiple variables outside our control, including but not limited to storage conditions prior to and following purchase, sowing technique, soil composition and drainage, ambient and soil temperature, humidity, light exposure, and watering practices. Even under optimal growing conditions and correct pre-treatment, no seed lot can be guaranteed to achieve 100% germination, and natural variation in individual seed viability is expected. SeedsCart does not guarantee germination outcomes and is not liable for germination failure arising from growing conditions, handling, or environmental factors beyond the point of sale.

Growing & Establishment

Tree seeds vary widely in their germination requirements. Many Indian hardwood species benefit from pre-sowing treatment — soaking for 12–24 hours, mechanical scarification, or brief hot water treatment to break seed coat dormancy. Polybag nursery raising is the standard method for most plantation species in India. Field transplanting is best timed to coincide with the onset of the monsoon for maximum survival.

Use in India

India's National Afforestation Programme, state forest departments, and private agroforestry initiatives use millions of tree seedlings annually for reforestation, social forestry, and watershed restoration. Native tree species are preferred for ecological projects, carbon sequestration, and farm forestry under national agroforestry schemes.

SeedsCart has supplied tree seeds to nurseries, forest departments, NGOs, plantation companies, and agroforestry projects across India for over 30 years. Seeds are collected from certified natural stands, germination-tested before dispatch, and available in bulk quantities for institutional and commercial buyers. We ship internationally.

Germination Guide
Typical germination time 3-15 days depending on coat treatment
1

Pre-Treatment

No pre-treatment is strictly required, but a 24-hour cold water soak measurably speeds up and improves germination uniformity. Removing the seed coat (decoating) also significantly speeds germination — as little as 3-6 days versus 14-15 days for seed sown with the coat on.
2

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained mix; broken pods (each piece containing one seed) can be sown directly rather than needing to fully extract each seed.
3

Sowing

Sow lightly covered with soil, avoiding heavy watering at this stage.
4

Post-Care & Growing On

Avoid overwatering, which this species handles poorly. This is a fast-growing, nitrogen-fixing pioneer species that develops a deep, aggressive taproot early — transplant while still young, since established plants are notoriously difficult to relocate successfully.

Tips

  • Removing the seed coat before sowing cuts germination time dramatically (3-6 days vs 14-15 days) This species develops an aggressive taproot fast and becomes very difficult to transplant once established — move seedlings to their final position while still young A nitrogen-fixing legume, useful for improving soil in mixed plantings
