Growing & Establishment

Tree seeds vary widely in their germination requirements. Many Indian hardwood species benefit from pre-sowing treatment — soaking for 12–24 hours, mechanical scarification, or brief hot water treatment to break seed coat dormancy. Polybag nursery raising is the standard method for most plantation species in India. Field transplanting is best timed to coincide with the onset of the monsoon for maximum survival.

Use in India

India's National Afforestation Programme, state forest departments, and private agroforestry initiatives use millions of tree seedlings annually for reforestation, social forestry, and watershed restoration. Native tree species are preferred for ecological projects, carbon sequestration, and farm forestry under national agroforestry schemes.

SeedsCart has supplied tree seeds to nurseries, forest departments, NGOs, plantation companies, and agroforestry projects across India for over 30 years. Seeds are collected from certified natural stands, germination-tested before dispatch, and available in bulk quantities for institutional and commercial buyers. We ship internationally.

Germination Guide
Typical germination time 7-21 days
1

Pre-Treatment

An overnight soak in warm water can speed germination, though it isn't essential.
2

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained, fertile seed-starting mix. Celery seed genuinely needs light to germinate — this is a hard requirement, not just a preference, so it must be sown on the surface. Keep soil temperature close to 21°C; notably, if soil gets too warm, germination can stall or fail entirely, which is the opposite problem from most seeds.
3

Sowing

Press seed gently into the surface of the mix without covering it — burying celery seed is one of the most common reasons for germination failure.
4

Post-Care & Growing On

Keep constantly moist (a plastic cover over the tray helps) and avoid letting temperatures climb too high. This is a genuinely slow germinator — expect 1-3 weeks, and don't assume failure just because nothing has appeared after the first week.

Tips

  • Never cover this seed with soil — it needs light to germinate, and burying it is one of the most common reasons home growers fail with celery Keep it cool rather than warm — unlike most seeds, celery germination can actually stall if the soil gets too hot, not too cold Genuinely slow to germinate; patience through the first couple of weeks is normal, not a sign of failure
