Growing & Establishment

Tree seeds vary widely in their germination requirements. Many Indian hardwood species benefit from pre-sowing treatment — soaking for 12–24 hours, mechanical scarification, or brief hot water treatment to break seed coat dormancy. Polybag nursery raising is the standard method for most plantation species in India. Field transplanting is best timed to coincide with the onset of the monsoon for maximum survival.

Use in India

India's National Afforestation Programme, state forest departments, and private agroforestry initiatives use millions of tree seedlings annually for reforestation, social forestry, and watershed restoration. Native tree species are preferred for ecological projects, carbon sequestration, and farm forestry under national agroforestry schemes.

SeedsCart has supplied tree seeds to nurseries, forest departments, NGOs, plantation companies, and agroforestry projects across India for over 30 years. Seeds are collected from certified natural stands, germination-tested before dispatch, and available in bulk quantities for institutional and commercial buyers. We ship internationally.

Germination Guide
Typical germination time 7-14 days (can extend further)
1

Pre-Treatment

No pre-treatment is required, but freshness helps — sow soon after harvest rather than storing seed long-term for the quickest, most reliable germination.
2

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a loose, well-drained, fine soil mix. This species is adapted to hot, arid conditions and doesn't tolerate excess moisture well, even at the seedling stage.
3

Sowing

Sow about 0.5cm deep.
4

Post-Care & Growing On

Keep lightly moist, never soggy — this species can be harmed by excess water even after germinating, so err on the drier side. Keep warm (20-25°C). Germination is often quick (1-2 weeks) but can be considerably slower or patchier in some batches — don't discard a tray too early if nothing has shown after a couple of weeks.

Tips

  • Avoid overwatering at every stage — this is a drought-adapted species that resents excess moisture, including right after germination Sow soon after harvest for the most reliable results Frost-sensitive as a young plant — protect seedlings from cold snaps
