Typical germination time 14-25 days

Pre-Treatment

Commercial trials found a brief concentrated sulfuric acid treatment (10 minutes) gave the best results (50.7% germination, fastest at just over 14 days), but for home growing, soaking in a cow dung slurry for 24-48 hours is a solid, safer alternative that also performed well in the same research. Important safety note: this species' sap and nut shell contain a caustic resin that causes severe skin irritation and allergic dermatitis on contact, and is toxic if ingested. Always wear gloves when handling seed, seedlings, or any plant material, and keep well away from children and pets.

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained mix in polybags. This species is dioecious — you'll need both a male and female plant to get fruit, worth knowing if fruiting is the goal rather than just growing an ornamental/medicinal specimen.

Sowing

Sow the treated seed 1.5-2cm deep, one per polybag, using gloves throughout.
