Germination Guide

Typical germination time 14-21 days

Pre-Treatment

No pre-treatment is required. As a legume, inoculating seed with the appropriate Rhizobium strain before sowing can improve nodulation and yield, though it isn't essential, especially where this species is already commonly grown locally.

Pre-Germination Prep

Use a well-drained mix. This species is genuinely drought-resistant thanks to a deep taproot, but is killed outright by heavy frost, so timing matters in cooler climates.

Sowing

Sow 2.5-5cm deep, in rows spaced 60-100cm apart with 30-50cm between plants.

Post-Care & Growing On

Keep moderately moist. Germination typically takes 14-21 days at warm temperatures (25-32°C is ideal). Seedlings are sensitive to soil salinity — germination rate and speed both decline as salt levels rise, so avoid irrigating with notably saline water if possible.
